I Play Discipline is a blog which I created in 2010, and contributing to for over 7 years. It lasted over 5 expansions, and many different guilds, but this blog was a red thread through a very transformative time in my life.
Content Marketing
I Play Disc is a World of Warcraft fan blog, in which I discussed Priests, healing, and anything in the game that interested me. I would describe the teamwork with others to defeat highest level content bosses, my quest to complete all available achievements and new content being implemented by Blizzard. It was a playground in which I learned about community engagement, and more importantly, SEO.
One of the great types of content marketing I did for the blog, which I didn’t know at the time was content marketing, was reviewing the upcoming patches of the game. I would link back to the original sources, link building before I understood its value in SEO. And through the statistics I was able to see which content would generate the biggest boost in clicks to my blog, giving me a bitesize introduction to analytics.
The End of an Era
In recent years I had to shutdown the blog due to life changes, but it was such an amazingly fun learning experience, and introduction to tasks I now do full time in my career. I aim to continue to play the game, but I think this blog has come to the end of an era. It was a way to connect to other players, and I will long cherish those memories, long after the blog or the game, are no longer available.
