Background

Stamboom Snip is a genealogy website about the Snip family, moderated by my father, Paul Snip. The genealogy was started in 1990 by Wieger Snip and Andries de Leeuw. Later, a website was created, which has been under our moderation since 2012.

Geneology & Research

Genealogy website documenting the research and photography of members of the Snip family tree. The project was originally started by Wieger Snip and Andries de Leeuw. After the website was taken over by my dad, Paul Snip, I started work on transforming the website into a WordPress website, and adding more photos and information collected by Paul Snip.

One of the changes we made was to transfer the site to WordPress, to start fresh, clean, and safe. A simple design was created by using the Unlimited WordPress Theme by Compete Themes. Most of the work went into populating all the content in the posts and pages, adding navigations, photographs, and widgets. And made the English content easily accessible to connect to English relatives.

Reflections

This project felt like a lot of responsibility, to do a 25-year project justice. However, it was also fun to work on a personal project to be able to work on my professional skills in a casual setting.

This website was made when my skills were still very limited, and the number of websites I had made was few. And I am confident WordPress will improve in its capabilities, maybe learn from Bootstrap. Once my skills and technologies improve, I hope to revisit this project in the future and continue to update it.
