Project Summary
In 2016, I spearheaded the redesign of Fogwise’s admin user interface (UI), transitioning from Silverlight to a modern, responsive design built on Bootstrap (Target Keyword: admin UI redesign with Bootstrap). This project aimed to enhance usability, streamline workflows, and establish a cohesive brand experience.
Fogwise: Market Research Redefined
Fogwise, a Swedish company specializing in VOIP-based automated dialing solutions for market research, entrusted me with modernizing their admin UI. This project prioritized:
- Improved Usability: Addressing pain points identified in the original interface to create a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
- Enhanced Workflows: Streamlining administrative tasks through a modern and responsive design.
- Cohesive Brand Experience: Integrating Fogwise’s new brand identity (colors, fonts) for a consistent user experience across all platforms.
Planning for Success
Before diving into design, I invested time in understanding:
- Existing System & User Needs: Thoroughly analyzing the current system to identify user pain points and inform the redesign.
- Onboarding & User Feedback: Developing strategies for user onboarding and gathering feedback throughout the redesign process.
- Bootstrap Framework: Experimenting with Bootstrap 3 to determine its suitability for the project requirements.
Modern Design with User Focus
The new UI embraced a modern aesthetic while retaining elements familiar to existing users:
- Color Harmony: Retained the recognizable dark grey tones and incorporated Fogwise’s signature orange, complemented by a new teal accent color.
- Cohesive Visual Language: Applied the design philosophy consistently across login/registration pages, buttons, and all interface components.
Development & Collaboration
I laid the foundation for the new UI by crafting the HTML and CSS framework:
- Responsive Design: Leveraged Bootstrap 3 to ensure seamless user experience across devices.
- Collaboration with Developers: Closely collaborated with back-end developers to implement functionalities and rigorously test the UI for optimal user experience.
Launch & Reflections
While I wasn’t present for the official launch due to other ongoing projects, the positive impact of Fogwise’s rapid growth was undeniable. Despite facing challenges and ultimately experiencing bankruptcy, this project remains a valuable learning experience. It underscored the importance of:
- Proactive Communication: Asking questions and voicing concerns to ensure project alignment.
- Balancing Aesthetics & Usability: Maintaining a visually appealing interface while prioritizing user experience.
- Continuous Improvement: Striving for ongoing user feedback and iterative development.
