Background
In 2015, I embarked on a project with Woodland Works, a company specializing in handcrafted wooden products. My responsibilities included creating their logo, establishing a cohesive brand identity, designing a webshop, managing social media presence, and developing various digital assets.
The Color Palette
Central to this endeavor was the development of a color palette that would reflect the company’s connection to nature and craftsmanship. The chosen colors were selected to evoke the warmth and authenticity of wood and natural materials.
#5D4037
A rich, earthy brown that serves as the primary color, symbolizing the strength and reliability of wood. This hue grounds the brand in its natural roots and conveys a sense of durability.
#A1887F
A warm, muted taupe that complements the primary brown. It adds depth to the palette and reflects the subtle variations found in different wood grains.
#FFE0B2
A soft, creamy beige that introduces lightness and balance. This color evokes the look of freshly sanded wood and provides a welcoming, approachable feel.
#FFF3E0
A delicate, off-white shade used for backgrounds and negative space. It ensures clarity and readability while maintaining the natural aesthetic of the brand.
This color strategy reinforced Woodland Works’ commitment to quality craftsmanship and natural materials. Customers responded positively, noting the website’s warm and authentic feel, which aligned seamlessly with the company’s product offerings.
Reflections
Working on the Woodland Works project early in my career was a formative experience. It taught me the importance of aligning color choices with a brand’s core values and the emotional responses they aim to evoke.
Since then, my understanding of color theory and branding has deepened, allowing me to create more nuanced and effective designs. This project remains a testament to the power of thoughtful color selection in building a brand’s identity and connection with its audience.
